Gyeonggijeon Shrine is a sacred royal shrine located in the heart of Jeonju Hanok Village, serving as one of Korea's most important historical and cultural landmarks. Built in 1410 during the early Joseon Dynasty, this magnificent shrine was constructed to honor King Taejo (Yi Seong-gye), the founder and first king of the Joseon Dynasty that ruled Korea for over 500 years.
The name "Gyeonggijeon" means "Palace of Respect and Foundation," reflecting its purpose as a place to pay homage to the dynasty's founding father.
